“We are facing unparalleled staffing shortages and all of us are working significant, mandatory overtime to staff unfilled positions. It’s leading to burnout, people leaving our profession, and difficulty recruiting at Ripon Fire and throughout California.
Like other fire agencies, the labor pool has decreased significantly. We are often lucky to get five qualified applicants for positions that used to have 15 qualified people apply. That’s changed since COVID-19 and we don’t see that turning around soon.
